Photo of the Week - Week 23:

Donnybrook's AX467, currently assigned to Broadstone for the Luas Bus service, is seen operating the Luas Replacement service on Custom House Quay on the 3rd June 2016.

The term "photo of the week" may need to be rethought given the lack of updates this year. Unfortunately though the pace of updates should increase, it will be towards the end of this year before normal service is resumed. The major news recently, other than the arrival of the 2016 SG's which I should hopefully cover next week, is the introduction of the Luas Replacement service at 9pm on Saturday 21st May 2016. Luas services on the Red Line have been curtailed to Jervis Street only in the city, with the section beyond Jervis Street to Connolly and Docklands unserved to facilitate the construction of the Green Line extension across its tracks at Marlborough Street and O'Connell Street. It is expected that the Red Line will recommence operation to the Docklands at the end of July, at which time the replacement service will finish.

Donnybrook's AX467, currently assigned to Broadstone for the Luas Bus service, is seen operating the Luas Replacement service on Custom House Quay joining the contra flow bus lane on the 1st June 2016.

The service is operated from Broadstone, principally by loaned AX-class buses from Donnybrook and Harristown. Harristown have provided AX451-AX455, while Donnybrook have provided AX464-AX467, AX467 in its distinctive Magnum tri-sided advert being the focus of this piece. Other Phibsborough buses have appeared on the service, especially at weekends, with AX564, AX569 and AX601 being noted on its first evening of service. Other AXs to appear have been AX560, AX576 and AX590. It would seem to be strictly an AX service, presumably due to the newest buses in the fleet being owned by the NTA and not available for contract services.

The route operates from a new temporary stop on Bachelors Walk near the corner of Liffey Street Upper, terminating on Castleforbes Road. The terminus at the Docklands sees buses returning to Castleforbes Road, with buses turning left onto Castleforbes Road from North Wall Quay. Buses turn then turn left again onto Mayor Street Upper for their first pick up stop, before left again onto New Wapping Street, and then right onto North Wall Quay. The last stop is Crampton Quay, with buses continuing on out of service along the south quays to O'Donovan Rossa Bridge to turn about onto the North Quays. The map of the service can be accessed on the Luas website.
