Photo of the Week - Week 51:

The last of the batch, Clontarf's brand new SG370 is seen operating Route 29A at Bus Aras on the 23rd December 2017 (click on photo for larger version).

This week catches up on SG deliveries, with Ringsend and Clontarf now operating their latest batches of SGs. The first photo shows SG370, the last numerically of the current batch. But it's delivery does not mean that orders are complete, there are still a few to arrive yet. The current standing is:

  • Harristown: SG271-SG288 (allocation complete).
  • Phibsborough: SG289-SG294, SG296-SG310 (awaiting SG295 to complete allocation).
  • Donnybrook: SG311-SG331 (awaiting SG332 to complete allocation).
  • Summerhill: SG334-SG344 (awaiting SG333 to complete allocation, though it may not enter service with DB).
  • Conyngham Road: SG345-SG354 (allocation complete).
  • Ringsend: SG355-SG364 (allocation complete).
  • Clontarf: SG365-SG370 (allocation complete).

  • Ringsend's SG361 is seen operating Route 15 at Redmond's Hill on the 23rd December 2017 (click on photo for larger version).

Of the missing buses, SG295 was delivered quite some time ago but has not entered service. SG333 is the bus that was painted in the new TFI blue livery. Judgement will have to made of this livery in person, the images thus far available not really showing the livery in its fullest. However, an initial look would suggest that it's not as smart as the Dublin Bus livery. Given the Go Ahead branding on SG333, it is hard to see this entering service with Dublin Bus, at least not until it was repainted into Dublin Bus livery. The status of SG332 is not clear. Another 100 new buses this year, more due next year including some long streetlites. Some older AVs, and most particularly the DTs and WVs, were withdrawn from service in 2017, yet 2018 looks like it will be an interesting year for bus operations in Dublin, especially with Go Ahead taking over the orbital and outer suburban routes. Merry Christmas to all, there should be one update to conclude the year. Need to figure out what its going to be though.
