The last update for 2019 covers GT5, which was wrapped in December to note Dublin Bus' sponsorship of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The concept is to floodlight prominent buildings in purple lights to salute those who live with disability. Dublin Bus followed suit, and wrapped GT5 in purple. The theme of the day this year was "The Future is Accessible". No way is that more true than with the Dublin Bus fleet, which has been fully low-floor for the past 7 years. But Dublin Bus have gone quite a bit further to make their services accessible. Since 2008 they have had a team of travel assistants to help people to use their services for the first time so that they can gain their independence. The scheme is a fantastic example of how Dublin Bus uses its stature within the city for many positive causes, and if you have not seen the video highlighting Roger Flood, the longest serving travel assistant, it is well worth a viewing.
